Bukit Timah! Monkey Man! Tiger! Elephant! Dog!

Halfway through Project Mending Sky: Us, a SOTA student went around asking: “Can you see the elephant?”

You are tempted to retort, “No, not really”. But you give it another shot. In the deepening dusk, you train your makeshift “viewfinder” on the foliage. And against the dying light, you finally see it—a silhouette of the magnificent animal. It’s all in your mind, but it’s amazing all the same.

That kinda encapsulates what I love about Drama Box’s ongoing site-specific show. You’re at the old Bukit Timah Railway Station, presumably in search of the elusive legendary Monkey Man—supposedly last seen in 2007 by a domestic helper who captured it on her HP while jogging(!?)—and you find other things to treasure.

S’pore Theatre Fest 2011! W!ld Rice has a new Man! Fierce!

Ladies and gents, the new logo for this year’s Singapore Theatre Festival.

As W!ld Rice artistic director and fest director Ivan Heng puts it: “Fierce. With good hair shampoo.”

After last year’s break to give way to the theatre company’s 10th anniversary season, their theatre festival is back and will run from Aug 3 to 21.

And you should now be calling it Man Singapore Theatre Festival.
