Rockin’ The Region: Malaysia. This Esplanade-organised showcase kicked off last week featuring bands from Singapore. This time, it features bands from – you guessed it – Malaysia! They Will Kill Us All, Deserters and Citizens Of Ice Cream will take the stage on July 9 to 11, 7.30pm, Esplanade Outdoor Theatre. It’s free, y’all.
Beatlemania On Tour. A Beatles tribute band perform the hits of the Fab Four. Yeah, ’nuff said. July 9, 8pm, Esplanade Theatre. Tickets start at $15 from Sistic.
Eric Moo in concert. One of the pioneers of xin yao returns to our shores after three years with this gig. Now, Eric is a guy who likes to speak his mind. And if my Mandarin was a lot better, I’m sure I’d have understood him better. Suffice it to say that he’s called this show an “intimate reunion of friends” and apparently, he’s not talking about the people on stage with him, but his fans, whom he calls “friends”. See? FIR: It’s My Live. Taiwan’s pop rock trio take to our shores in this high-octane show. When someone asked if they would be disrobing a la their promotional photograph that left little to the imagination, they said that they couldn’t because our laws here restrict such behaviour. Like, really! When has that stopped anybody??? Oh yeah. Every time. July 9, 8pm, Singapore Indoor Stadium. Tickets start at $78 from Sistic.
So Long And Thanks For All The Fish. No, it’s not a musical tribute to Douglas Adams, nor is it the musical of the fourth instalment of his popular book and radio series. No, it’s our local indie darlings Allura, who bid farewell to fans with this final gig. (OK, they’re calling it “indefinite hiatus” but we know that really means “confirm sure split up one”. Right?) SCIM 16.The acronym actually means Singapore Chinese Indie Musicians – or so I’m led to believe. Anyway, it features bands like Elyzia, Redpoll, Hybrid, LGF and more. And yes, this is instalment No 16. With July 10, 5pm, Home Club. Tickets at $15 includes two house pour.
Pazahora/Ghaust Split 7” Release Party. Get to experience Indonesian post metal band Ghaust and “melodic apocalyptic crust” from Pazahora rock along with bands like Exkoriator, Elegy For Eulisza and more. Better bring your earplugs. Mahler 2: Resurrection. No, this isn’t the sequel to Mahler 1: Fatality, it features the music of Mahler, as performed by the Orchestra Of The Music Makers, Queensland Festival Chorus and Singapore Festival Chorus.
