King Kong Jane to rep SG in Indonesia this weekend

I’m just taking a break from all things GE to give a shout out to the guys from KKJ!

The guys from KKJ

Yessiree, indie rock band King Kong Jane has been selected by the National Arts Council (NAC) to represent Singapore at the Asean Youth-Cultural Exchange Festival (AYCEF) 2011, which will be held in Jakarta (JKT), Indonesia (INDO) from April 30 to May 2. Yup, that’s this weekend.

So those of you who’ll be in JKT might want to check it out.

Just what is the AYCEF? Well, the AYCEF is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in collaboration with relevant institutions in Indonesia, and aims to raise Asean awareness through popular music exchange.

One rock band from each of the following Asean member countries has been invited to perform: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, LAO PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

And the bands will perform at the BackStage Beach Concert Café in Ancol, Jakarta, Indonesia.

No, I have no idea where that is, but here’s what Colin Lim of KKJ had to say: “We’re really honoured to be given this opportunity by NAC to represent Singapore, and are looking forward to performing and interacting with other musicians from the region.
“This will be the first time that we’re performing outside of Singapore, so we’re really excited to showcase songs from our debut album which was released in March this year.”

Cheers Colin, we’re sure it will be fun. Can you “delegate” a song to those about to vote?

Btw, you can get KKJ’s album, Waiting For Friday at HMV, Gramophone, the Esplanade Shop, BooksActually and online at Bandcamp and Getup Merch.
