Jade Seah goes Off The Record on 987FM

You’ve seen her act and you’ve seen her host, and now you’ll have the voice of Jade Seah to accompany you on weekday afternoons: The Catch Of The Day host will be joining her co-hosts The Muttons on 987FM, but with her very own show!

Jade Seah will be hosting 987FM’s Off The Record, which will be start next week on Sept 3, and airs from Monday to Friday, 12pm to 4pm. After appearing on our screens, stepping behind the DJ console is a dream gig for Jade Seah.

“I used to pretend I was a DJ as a kid – I did the classic thing where I’d ‘introduce’ songs by voicing over their starts and ends – this show will hopefully be much better than that effort! I’m thankful to 987 for inviting me into the family, and I look forward to fun times ahead!,” said Jade Seah.

Her Catch Of The Day co-host, Justin Ang of The Muttons were also happy to introduce her into the radio fold – after all, maybe it was them who first planted the idea in her head.

“We had a lot of fun working with Jade on Catch of The Day. That’s actually when we first discussed the prospect of her being a radio DJ! She’s bubbly, quick on her feet, and always so energetic. I think 987FM listeners are really going to enjoy her company. And who can complain about a hot girl joining our team?” he said.

Well, it looks like The Muttons know their priorities.

Jade Seah hosts 987FM’s Off The Record Monday to Friday at 12pm to 4pm from Sept 3.

Rambling on my mind: 987FM’s The Next Big Thing

For the past five weeks, I’ve had the opportunity and pleasure to see what the local music scene has to offer next. See, I was invited to be a judge for 987FM’s singer-songwriter competition called The Next Big Thing.

Yup, it’s an X-Factor/Singapore Idol-style competition where singer-songwriters can compete to win a top prize of S$10,000, a Maestro ambassadorship (and a Maestro guitar!), Monster headphones and – wait for it – a trophy!
And over the last five weeks, my fellow judges – 987FM DJ Rozz and musician/producer Don Richmond – and I heard 10 acts go mano a mano for a place in the finals. And five have made it. Incidentally, the grand finals happens this Saturday (Nov 19) at TAB, starting from 6pm.  Continue reading ‘Rambling on my mind: 987FM’s The Next Big Thing’

New voices of radio

LAST night, I had the chance to see eight people vying for four places in the race to fill in the job description of Radio DJ. This was probably the most fun job interview I’ve ever been to (including my own, which weren’t fun at all).

Temper, temper!

Temper Trap P1100485 sml

Aussie-now-living-in-London band The Temper Trap popped over as surprise guests at the press con announcing next year’s Laneway Festival. But apparently will so much jabber on the Net about it, no one was really surprised when 987FM DJ Roz announced their names. (Actually, a lot of “see I told you” went on.)

Anyway, here are some pics from their performance at 987FM and the New Asia Bar. “This is the highest place we’ve ever played an acoustic set – 70 floors up!” they said. Then someone said, “It’s 71 floors.” There’s always someone, isn’t there?
