Live stream: Inch and K-Pop

For those who are interested, local singer-songwriter Inch is currently in America, on Livestream, trying to write a song (with your help!)

Over in Korea, the MelOn awards show is currently being streamed.

The early post: Sep 8

IF you’re just a glut for good music, then you’re spoilt for choice this weekend with no less than 6 shows to catch – all on SEP 8!
And if you’re as greedy as I am, you’re going to want to catch them all. And you can. If you’re willing to forgo a bit here to take in a bit there…

Start with the Karnival Raya Warna Ria, at Downtown East, which kicks off at noon, and features slots by Taufik Batisah and Hady Mirza, as well as rap duo Sleeq.
Then, voom over to Orchard Hotel at 6pm for the TAB 2nd Anni x BDMP Fundraiser, a special concert celebrating TAB’s 2nd birthday, featuring the likes of Brandon Lee, Inch Chua, Kexin, The Sam Willows, Newton Circus and No. IV. This show is also a fund raiser in aid of the Bone Marrow Donor Programme.
Next, check out the Wonder World, as South Korea’s K-pop phenomenon, Wonder Girls, return. Of course, you’ll be at Sentosa but who says, you cannot engage in choral music at SOTA’s concert hall with Zen Renaissance, a gig by the Philharmonic Chamber Choir featuring shakuhachi (Japanese flute) master, Ueno Koshuzan, before shooming to the Sultan Jazz Club to catch Rani Singam, one of our favourite jazz singers – accompanied by three of the top musos in Singapore, Kerong Chok (keyboards), Christy Smith (bass) and Soh Wenming (drums).
Then, make your way to the Singapore Indoor Stadium for Aaron Kwok’s De Showy Masquerade World Tour. Sure, it started at 8pm, but this guy never stops, and you can be sure he’ll still be going strong by the time you get there.

(NOTE: The itinerary planned here works only if you have a time machine or a teleport device. Otherwise, you’ll probably have to skip a show or two. Sorry for the confusion. If any.)

Check out the gig guide for ticketing details, etc…

Christmas time is here again (plus bonus track)

Christmas time is here again/ Christmas time is here again/ Christmas time is here again/ Christmas time is here again/ Ain’t been around since you know when/ Christmas time is here again/ O-U-T spells “out” – Christmas Time Is Here Again by The Beatles

AS far as I’m concerned, that little ditty written and recorded by the Fab Four back in 1967, basically sums up my attitude towards Christmas music. Christmas music is catchy, easy to sing, can be sung over and over again.

So far this year, I’ve had the opportunity to check out some of the artistes who have released Christmas offerings and I must say, most of it has been pretty darn depressing. Okay, that’s not true. Thanks to the wonderous nature of Christmas songs and the fact that the spirit of giving is in the air and all, I’m inclined to say that most of the offerings aren’t half bad.

Inch Chua to Kollaborate

WAS just skimming online when I happened on the Kollaboration website and saw someone called Inch Chua slated to play at Kollaboration 11 (K-11). That’s the 11th edition of Kollaboration.

But wait, I thought, the same Inch Chua that whom Singapore last saw at The Esplanade a couple of weeks ago? Yes. Indeed.

For those who don’t know what Kollaboration is, here’s a quick brief. It’s a gig for Asian/Pacific Islander musos. They compete and win a prize. There you go.

Those who want a detailed explanation can click here. Those who want to know who else is taking part in K-11 can click here.

Those who are going to be in Los Angeles and feel like checking out the Nokia Theatre because that’s where they hold events like American Idol, etc, and then they realise that K-11 will be held there and then want to buy tickets can click here.

The 11th Annual Kollaboration Los Angeles

Good luck, Inch!

I don’t know if you’ve already read this – I’m assuming most, if not all of you, have – but one of my favourite singer-songwriters, Inch Chua, has vented her frustration at the unfortunate state of the Singapore music scene.

Here’s the letter reprinted from her FB page…
