So Kyle Patrick was in town for MTV Sessions about two weeks ago, and he was nice enough to have a sitdown with us and have a nice chat about his new EP and performing for MTV. While he’s known by some as the frontman of The Click Five, Kyle Patrick’s has gone solo (for the moment), working with fans online to select songs from almost a hundred just for his new EP. And he came to Singapore wearing the exact same shoes as he wore in his Go For Gold MTV!
Check out a peek of those shoes! (Photo by Nabihah Hashim)
And enough of me telling you what he said, check out the video below:
So while you’re looking forward to watching the gig on Sept 8 on MTV SEA, check out some pics of the cosy concert below courtesy of MTV Asia.

Justin Bieber, surely, needs no introduction. In Kuala Lumpur for the MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia 2012, Justin Bieber had also arrived to do the press conference for the release of his latest album, Believe. Hours before the presscon-cum-acoustic-showcase started Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur was filled with over a hundred Beliebers – some as young as about 4 (maybe the kid’s mom was the fan?). Bieber performed an acoustic showcase that had all his fans all screaming and sighing (sometimes all at the same time) – points when Bieber reached out to the crowd almost descended into pandemonium, but for many of these fans, this was a dream come true. Ask the girl who was invited onstage – and promptly burst into tears while grabbing hold of Bieber for dear life. Or ask the Singaporean fan who was in tears even after the concert, constantly wiping her eyes while being filmed. It’s a good thing, then, that we got the Q&A bit of the presscon on tape – especially the fan questions:
But like I mentioned, Bieber was in KL for the MTV World Stage – and he was surprisingly (when I first found out) the opener for the night. The headliner opening the show? That might have been madness for other shows, but perhaps for that night it made sense, after all, many young kids probably couldn’t stay up too late (and we had Jay Park to close the night).

Catching Justin Bieber live is quite the experience – from his extremely practised dances to how much his fans know his songs, completing every other lyric for him. If Bieber were to keep totally quiet throughout a concert and just sit there, I’m sure his fans would singalong anyway! But of course, that’s not what he did, and Bieber was an extremely polished performer throughout his 45min set that actually started only 8min after the expected start time.

In the heat, Bieber slowed things down to get a drink of water (“This is cold!”) or to get out of his jacket. While his quick clothes change left us with a weird slot of dead air, his return for his acoustic set came soon enough. Some of the songs we’d seen during his acoustic set during the day, but when he played guitar for One Time – the crowd just went bonkers.

The 45min set definitely left fans wanting more – but then again, how much of Bieber is ever enough for them?

We’ve already seen him on our shores twice this year, but it’s obvious that the region can’t get enough of Jay Park. The former leader of K-pop group 2PM has since struck out on his own and has more than managed to become a star draw on his own account. But for a star, Jay Park is humble in person (“I can’t act,” he says), and humourous too: “And I’m stuck here doing interviews?” he cries, after hearing Justin Bieber was riding waves with Selena Gomez. It’s interesting to watch him in action during interviews with others, from singing to himself while waiting for things to start, to crying out “Selena Gomez” while talking to MTV VJ Holly. Not sure what I mean? Take a look!
Jay Park also ended the night at the MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia 2012. If you ever wondered how on earth putting your headliner (Justin Bieber) as the first act of a festival would work out, wonder no further: While there was a huge number of people leaving after Bieber, tons stuck around for Jay Park, and he put on an amazing show (the longest show of the night too) that brought the house down.

The concert had it all – great singing, freestyle rapping (something about the humidity in Malaysia), choreographed dancing, breakdancing, and even an a-capella rendition of Justin Bieber’s Boyfriend before Jay Park started on his very own Girlfriend. Oh – and there were abs. Abs that launched the two tiny girls next to me into the air each time he flashed them – I think they jumped even higher than my height.

Jay Park kept up his high octane performance, even beatboxing during a costume change so that the crowd never, ever, got restless. Jay Park’s an amazing performer, and his star will still be rising yet. The cure for Bieber Fever? If you ask those jumpy girls, maybe they’d tell you it’s Jay Park.

Some of you might remember her from her Teh Tarik Crew days, but these days Mizz Nina is flying solo. The Malaysian pop-star is extremely popular across the causeway, with over 123,000 Twitter followers and over half a million likes on Facebook. While us here in Singapore might not have heard much of her yet – things might change soon: Having a gig in Singapore is Mizz Nina’s next aim for this year.
Mizz Nina also performed at the MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2012, right after KARA. While she might not have had the regional appeal of KARA or Jay Park, or the international appeal of Justin Bieber, Mizz Nina more than held her own with an extremely energetic performance that had huge pockets in the Malaysian crowd jumping up and down throughout the entire concert.

Mizz Nina definitely tried to spice up her act, being the first artiste of the night to have fireworks and even having mimes and … Baseball players onstage. One of them even looked like the guitarist Slash (except for some reason said guy, before the concert, didn’t know who Slash was). Considering that she’s already collaborated with Flo Rida, maybe there’s going to be a lot more on this lady’s horizon. “The world’s my oyster,” she says – and with some hard work there’s going to be no denying that.

KARA was back in full force over the weekend at the MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2012, held over the weekend in Kuala Lumpur. Everyone – including the recently discharged Han Seung-yeon – was all smiles during their press conference as they shared what they felt and did during their recent Singapore showcase stop.
Whether or not K-pop is your “thing”, you’ll have to admit that the coordination that these ladies show was very smooth, and they did a commendable job in the Malaysian heat and humidity. Hair might have been plastered to their face as the perspiration flowed, but their smiles never dropped off their faces. With the addition of bubbles and giant balloons filled with paper hearts I do say pretty much the whole crowd who stayed on after Bieber’s concert had a great time.

Speaking of KARA being back to full force: Just had to show this picture so you can compare it to the one Chris got.
