Involve Yourself: Give Your Live 2010 – great stuff

HAPPENED to come across this site via Lucy Swann’s Facebook page(http://www.facebook.com/LucySwannn). In case you didn’t know, Lucy Swann is one of Norway’s most interesting musos, who’s not black metal or sounds like Kings Of Convenience (heh heh!)

The xx were the last band to play at Oya, but I was bored by their show in Singapore, so I decided to catch Lucy Swann instead. She's Tori, Fiona and Florence all rolled into one. Nice.

I kind of fell in love with the pop music from Norway when I was over there earlier this year, and Lucy Swann is one of my fave acts from the country better known for its salmon, fjords and the Norwegian Blue (a parrot with beautiful plumage).

Anyway, she recently performed a new live recording of her tune Born Again, (taken from her debut album La Petite Mort) as part of this YouTube “music festival” Involve Yourself where she and 29 other Norwegian music acts – including Thom Hell, Ingrid Olava, Ingeborg Selnes, Pow Pow and Datarock - performed their songs live for a campaign for human rights.

And we’re not talking about some big festival concert. This is low-key, with the videos recorded in some rather interesting places, I must say. Don’t worry, not all the songs are in Norwegian – most are in English.

But it’s not only a great showcase, but a great idea. Is it possible to have something similar here?

Great stuff. IMHO anyway.

Alicia Keys in concert – now!

THOSE of you thinking of taking your morning kopi break might just want to tune in to YouTube now to catch one of the hottest babes ever to play the piano and sing.

Yup, it’s ALICIA KEYS, whose concert is live on YouTube now! Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/aliciakeysSME.

Free gigs without leaving your home

NO, I’m not talking about watching 23 low-res clips on the trot and calling that watching a free gig.

Perhaps influenced by U2′s YouTube webcast of their 360 concert, it’s been reported that a new website will allow fans to watch concerts for free, “choosing from five different camera angles as they watch”. Or so they said.

Called BillboardLive.com, it’s a site that lets you can watch Alicia Keys, Usher, David Archuleta, Daughtry and other artists “yet to be announced”. And you can select from five different camera views, too.

Furthermore, you can use Twitter or Facebook during the webcast without leaving the show. Plus, it’s available on iPhone too. Founder Michael Williams says the site is “reconnecting artists with their fans, for free,” reported AP.

Of course, this might pose problems to artistes who have to connect to their fans for a fee, otherwise they, their children and who-have-you will starve to death. But hey, if your name is Usher or Daughtry, I seriously doubt that you’ll be severely inconvenienced by this.
