The Avengers preview was held yesterday morning, and members of the press, celebrities and fans who won a Facebook contest were invited to take a look at the new Avengers movie before the rest of Singapore. I was there too to review the movie and while I can’t say too much about it until the embargo lifts, er, look at the headline if you will.
I think the best part of the whole event was the involvement of the Super Fans: Fans who had to tell Avengers Singapore why they were the biggest fans of Marvel ever via a contest announced on Facebook. I ended up sitting next to a pair of fans excitedly discussing why the Human Torch was now Captain America (they got it wrong, but I let it be). They were all also promised only 45 min of the movie – when it was revealed they got to watch the full thing a lady in the row in front of me clutched her Thor movie comics and said: “I think I’m going to cry!”
The stars didn’t quite cry when that was announced, but they were all enthused to watch the movie. Singer / actor Nat Ho was also there early in the morning to catch the movie. When asked if he looked forward to watching the movie, he said that he definitely was.
“Before that I saw some trailers and thought ‘this is really cool’. Just that I wish that it wasn’t so early in the morning. Still, I think it was an action-packed movie, one that is also very fun, and people should just come and watch it.”
With him was local celebrity blogger, Xiaxue, who was also very enthusiastic about it.
“I watched Thor, so I was very excited to see this like everybody else because of when they showed the special parts at the end of Thor and Iron Man. Everybody was excited for this movie to come out and it didn’t disappoint me at all. It’s a very interesting blend to see all these alpha-males together, with Scarlett Johanssen as well, and yeah I think it’s so much eye-candy for girls especially since all the guys are so buff and they’re so cute and they’re so charming.”
Singapore’s blogfather, Mr Brown wasn’t so much a fan of the Avengers before watching the movie, preferring their mutant brethren, the X-Men. Still, he said, “I think I will now go back and revisit Avengers movie. I rarely clap in a movie, and they made me clap, so they did something right.”
I can’t go into specifics yet, but I can say this: Believe the hype, and then some. As a comic book geek myself maybe you might want to take this with a pinch of salt, but I do believe emphatically that there is something for everyone in this movie.
