YOU name me one girl who will say no to a tall glass of Gosling? Flick Chick turns to mush during her one-on-one interview with Gangster Squad’s Ryan Gosling!

Just when I thought I wasn’t one of those girls … I became ONE! Me and The Goz= MUSH!

Hey Film fans,
Yes, I got a chance to go head on one on one with Ryan Gosling for an interview and all my hard hitting pulitzer prize-winning questions and funny quirky ribs ( to match his self-deprecating and dead-pan humour) all went out of the window! Sigh…

I wasn’t sure why I was so incredibly nervous about talking to Ryan Gosling. As a professional, I knew I had to refrain from certain things during the interview. Things like touching him, crying, stuttering and passing out … you know, that sort of thing.

I was determined to be professional. Plus, I needed to be awake to tell him I enjoyed his latest role as real-life cop Jerry Wooster in the stylish mobster movie Gangster Squad, the Ruben Fleischer-directed flick about real-life mob kingpin Mickey Cohen, who terrorised Los Angeles in 1949.

Now, it’s not like it was our first time meeting. I had a chance to bump into the 32-year-old actor in the elevator on the morning of our interview at the Beverly Hilton, where he and his fellow A-list cast like Josh Brolin gathered to promote the movie.

“Hello there! How are you doing this morning?” he politely said to a jaw-dropped me when I held open the elevator door without realising it was for the man himself and his minder. We met the second time when he passed me by with a smile and nod while I was waiting for my turn to interview his co-star, Emma Stone.

See, we’re practically best friends now, so why were the butterflies in my tummy training for the Olympics?

Perhaps it’s because the handsome, polite, and all-round fantastic Oscar nominated actor is pretty much every hot-blooded female’s embodiment of the new sexy. You know the type: Brains, brawn and talent included. Willing to intervene and break up a real New York Street fight when necessary. Scorn at my gushing if you must, but we dare you to find someone who will say “no” to a tall blond glass of Gosling. Girls want him, guys want to be him. And why not?

The former Mouseketeer managed to transform himself from being Young Hercules and that swoony hero every girl wanted as a husband in the syrupy tear-jerker, The Notebook, into an indie movie darling and Hollywood’s hottest property with a cinematic winning streak. All by making refreshingly uneasy choices with his career. Whether it’s nailing the part as a sensitive loner with a blow-up doll girlfriend in Lars And The Real Girl; showing off both his bod and comedic side in Crazy Stupid Love; being unflappably cool and necessarily brutal in Drive; or getting that deserved Oscar nomination for Half Nelson. The Goz, as his smorgasbord resume proves, is all that and more.

It’s true all my good intentions went out the window when he greeted me with a smile (“we meet again!”) as I walked into our interview. But thanks to his patience, dead-pan humour, all round loveliness, and enquiries about Singapore and my long flight, I managed to just about pull through to ask a few questions about Gangster Squad. But only just about.

Sigh … Looks like The Gosling Effect is spreading. Even Oscar Nominated Actress Anna Kendrick is not immune. It seems the actor’s latest performance got her so hot and bothered, she took to Twitter to share her lust with more than 600,000 followers with a very racy tweet.
It has since gone viral – spreading across the Twitter world in lightning fashion. Wanna know what she said ? Check out @AnnaKendrick47.

So go watch GANGSTER SQUAD, film fans! It’s well worth it … showing in Singapore cinemas now!

Robert Pattinson talks Kristen Stewart quirks and what Happy Ever After Twilight really means to him: Genevieve Loh’s exclusive chat with R-Patz

We present to you… ROBERT PATTINSON!

Alert the tabloids: Twilight Saga franchise star Robert Pattinson was spotted hugging an Asian chick at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills – with off-screen on-screen love Kristen Stewart in the next room! Oh wait, that’s just Flick Chick posing for a photo with a very obliging Rob (as he likes to be called) right after our TV interview. Silly me.:)

“Sure thing,” R-Patz immediately said when I requested a photo.”But let me warn you first, I stink!” he continued with a laugh. He’s talking about sitting in the spotlight all day long answering the same questions 18 different ways and and his obvious cigarette habit (he was puffing on one of those Nicorette sticks when I first walked into the interview room). “But you don’t mind do you?” He laughed again. As I’ve said before – and I reiterate in full awareness of the dangers of being mauled by many a fan – I NEVER GOT THE ALLURE OF ROBERT PATTINSON. But I have to admit that after interviewing him a couple of times, I started to get it.

R-PATZ IS ACTUALLY A LOVELY GUY IN PERSON! Goofy, funny, personable, easy-going and constantly snickering.

And despite the mass hysteria of fans trailing him from hotel to hotel and laying siege since the start of Twilight, he has seemingly taken all of the madness in stride. And if you consider that this guy’s the object of desire of complete strangers who want to be him (and with him), buy and sell things with his face on it, run their fingers through his hair, watch him do intimate things, eat his leftovers, swipe his underwear and basically to see him live his life under a miscroscope? It’s all pretty impressive for on-screen vampire and off-screen human being to take!

“No, I don’t mind at all,” I replied.

Leave a comment and tell me how much you love ( or don’t) R-Patz and why! Let’s discuss!

XOXO

“Winona Forever!” Genevieve Loh gets to meet her teen idol in person, talks Heathers Sequel (and surprisingly doesn’t get her pockets picked!)

Hey Film Fans, even before Johnny Depp tattooed Winona Forever on himself back when,we all knew there was something special about Ms Ryder.

Yes, Winona has had her fair share of ups and downs. But remember the time when she was THE IT GIRL of Hollywood? She was Queen Bee of Generation X. Winona, along with my teen crush Christian Slater, made 1988′s Heathers ( one Flick Chick’s absolute all time favourite films) wickedly funny, groundbreaking and all-round brilliant!!! That dark hair, that porcelain skin, those doe-like deep pooled eyes and that very fragility …. girls wanted to be her, guys wanted to date her.

Yes, she might have gone from award winning highs of Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Age of Innocence, the generation defining Reality Bites and highly personal Girl, Interrupted to a very public low of the Marc Jacobs shoplifting arrest in the very early 2000s. But she’s still working her star power in smaller but pivotal roles. Like looping back and working with maestro Tim Burton again, this time voicing Elsa Van Helsing in Frankenweenie. And that’s why she’s WINONA FOREVER!

Drop me a comment if you remember her movies, her vulnerability and her talent.
Till then,

The wonderfully weird Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara talk Tim Burton and Frankenweenie

Hey Film Fans!

It’s no big secret that Flick Chick is a massive fan of Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie! And why not? Led by an excellent voice cast of little Charlie Tahan, Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’ Hara and Martin Landau, Frankenweenie is Burton at his best, telling a charmingly dark and twisted story with just that right mix of macabre, oddball-ness and heart.

The movie rightfully pays homage to Frankenstein throughout, of course, but the plethora of nudge-wink references to many other classic monster films takes the film that one step further. The director even gives a nod to his own films by including Burton alum – the perfectly cast multi-voice-stylings of one Catherine O’Hara ( Mrs Frankenstein, Weird Girl and Gym Teacher) and Martin Short ( Mr Frankenstein, Mr Burgemeister and Nassor) who play three characters each! Yes THREE!!!! It is a combination that will undoubtedly make many a die-hard Burton fan ( including this journo) very happy. WOOT!

Enjoy!

XOXO,
