After reading numerous reports about Zambia’s incredible feat of winning the African Cup of Nations for the first time, I simply had to look up YouTube for the scenes of coach Herve Renard shoving his own player in the chest.
It wasn’t an act of violence, but rather, an expression of unbridled passion. What’s more amazing is his player’s reaction to him – a pat on the back as if to say, “It’s ok boss, i got it, calm down. We’re going to win this.” The scene told the whole story of the relationship between this seemingly fiery coach and his team. View it here: http://tdy.sg/z2r8dw
In another clip, Renard is seen carrying injured player Joseph Musonda to the spot where the rest of the squad were celebrating their win. View it here http://tdy.sg/wyeQDI
In light of the whole racism fiasco involving Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra, I think Renard really provided a reminder of what football should be like – a beautiful one.
