Greetings and salutations, fellow stargazers! This is your Showbiz Sista getting a rare glimpse of Emmy-winning actress Archie Panjabi, who stars in The Good Wife as Kalinda Sharma, the don’t-mess-with-me private investigator with the knee-high leather Boots Of Justice.
The Good Wife is about the wife of a disgraced politician (played by Julianna Margulies) who tries to get her life back together by starting work at a law firm. The show also stars Christine Baranski, Josh Charles and Alan Cumming.
The London-born East Is East and Bend It Like Beckham actress was in town recently to visit family here as well as in Malaysia, and Showbiz Sista had a nice little chat with her at the Four Seasons hotel.

Are there any pieces in your wardrobe that are similar to Kalinda’s?
(Laughs) I’ve started wearing boots a lot. I never wore knee high boots until then. There’s a couple of things I borrow. They’re more comfortable than the other girls’ shoes. Like between takes, Christina and Julianna have to remove their shoes whereas once I put my boots on, they’re so comfortable. And they’re so much trouble to put on and off, I tend to stay in them for 10 to 15 hours at a time.
There are a lot of big Indian names coming up in Hollywood. Are you acquainted with any of them?
It’s hard because I’m based in New York. We get to go to LA for the awards ceremonies and then we come back. I met Kunal Nayyar, who is in Big Bang Theory. What’s really nice is he came to New York because there was a big party for CBS. He’s actually really, really good fun. He’s from Delhi, a place I’ve been quite a lot. I had a lot of fun with him at the CBS party. He’s very funny.
It’s great that the show’s done so well. What’s next for you?
Contractually, we’re with this as long as the show goes or as long as they want us. I’m probably going to be with it for the next ten months. What I’d like to do at some point in my life is write and direct something, maybe act in it. For the hiatus period there were lots of roles offered to me that were really sexy and very similar to Kalinda. I just felt the next role will probably have to be completely different to what Kalinda is, just because I think as an actor, it’s so good to constantly sharpen character tools. It’d be nice to play somebody who maybe isn’t so confident… It’d be interesting to try doing that.
The Good Wife’s second season has just ended its run on DIVA Universal (StarHub TV Ch 522) and production for its third season will be starting soon. Showbiz Sista, signing out. Live long and pop corn!
