All aboard for 2012!

Greetings and salutations, fellow stargazers! This is Weifang, blogging in place of Showbiz Sista, because I scored (kinda) a date with some of the finest in the television circus last Saturday at Nex mall.

MediaCorp TV Channel 8 threw a spectacular two-day road show – dubbed Dramatasy – to age-old heartlanders, fervent tweens and curious passers-by at the shopping mall over the weekend. The festivities kicked off proper on Saturday, with the casts of the channel’s upcoming drama serials  giving fans a peek into what they can expect in the brand new year.

Artistes such as Zoe Tay, Rui En, Tay Ping Hui, Jeanette Aw, Joanne Peh, Andie Chen, Zhang Yaodong, Pan Ling Ling and Kate Pang were on site the first day, alongside Dai Yang Tian and Zhou Ying, who rushed back from Muar, Malaysia, last Friday night just to give the audience a preview of their period drama, The Quarters. Sunday saw the cast of A Song To Remember celebrating cabaret in style as Qi Yu Wu, Joanne Peh, Eelyn Kok and Chen Hanwei performed a little skit and dance.

From left: Channel 8 heart throbbers Yuan Shuai (Rescue 995 / Unriddle 2), Andie Chen (Joys of Life / Code of Honour) and Ian Fang (Joys of Life).

Pan Ling Ling stars in Joys of Life and A Song To Remember, which is currently airing every Mondays to Fridays on Channel 8, 9pm.  Tay Ping Hui stars in Rescue 995 and Unriddle 2.

Pan Ling Ling was in a good mood and said that she was meeting her gal pals for high tea right after the fiesta. TPH, on the other hand, was unlike his usual cheery self: the H&M-clad chap stated that he was tired as he is actively involved in filming Unriddle 2. In Rescue 995, TPH plays a team leader in a paramedic team, who is cynical and doesn’t believe that there’s free lunch in the world.

The crowd was honestly a tad too tumultuous for my tiny heart to bear. Can you spot yourself?

Fans were out in full force in their teenage gears and kicks, with Rui En’s fan club, RBKD, staying overnight in the mall (so I heard).

The cast of Joys of Life onstage, sharing a slice of what viewers can expect from the 1960s getai drama, which stars Chen Liping, Chew Chor Meng, Huang Wenyong, Zhang Yaodong, Kate Pang, Andie Chen, Rui En, Pan Ling Ling and Lin Meijiao.

The housemates, Kate Pang and Zhang Yaodong (yep, they live in the same house alongside Dai Yang Tian and Jeffrey Xu. And, perhaps, Jerry Yeo – in the near future ;) ).

The duo will be starring in two drama serials – Double Bonus and Joys of Life – together.

In Double Bonus, Zhang Yaodong stars as the ambitious second son in a bak kwa family business, with Michelle Chia playing his wife. And in Joys of Life, ZYD is the eldest son of a rich bread shop owner and his good friends include Andie Chen and Alien Huang. The chaps subsequently bought over a nightclub. Joys of Life will also welcome Taiwanese hot wok Wang Xin Ru (remember that pretty young lass in Devotion?) back on our television sets.

Guess who’s the proud owner of this very awesome armour caged ring?

Yup, it belongs to the equally awesome Rui En – Andie Chen not included.

Mr Dai Yang Tian, looking all dapper and sorts backstage in a very small container backstage at Dramatasy.

DYT was feeling rather good and was glad to be back, if only for a while. DYT is currently filming The Quarters in Muar and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with Yao Wen Long, Constance Song, Zhou Ying and Zzen Zhang. The cast and crew will only be back on our shores in January 2012.

The very affable Rebecca Lim, wearing the sweetest midnight blue frock from local label, MAE PANG.

Rebecca is currently two weeks into filming Unriddle 2, her first Channel 8 drama after a period of Channel 5 shows. She plays a psychiatrist and Rui En’s university junior in the show, helping her solve certain tricky cases along the way. Rebecca noted that her role in Unriddle 2 is probably the most challenging one  in a while, as her roles usually consist of playing the “bad guy”.  Watch out for her indie movie coming out next year, with Lim Kay Tong (acting as her uncle again) and Brazilian-Japanese model Danielle acting alongside her good self.

Chen Shucheng, Joanne Peh (in a Versace x H&M piece) and Pierre Png.

The dazzling screen couple that is Pierre Png and Joanne Peh plays a newly-hitched couple in Pillow Talk, which is all about the everyday life of the soon-to-be wedded twosome in Singapore. Cheng-shu, on the contrary, does not play their father in the drama. Instead, you can find him in Double Bonus, next to luminaries like Zoe Tay, Terence Cao, Zhang Yaodong, Kate Pang, Tracy Lee and Ya Hui.
