Greetings and salutations, fellow stargazers! This is May Seah, your Showbiz Sista, bringing you the best and most bounteous bits from Baby Bonus, the upcoming drama on MediaCorp TV Channel 8. It’s got big names like Tay Ping Hui, Felicia Chin, Jesseca Liu, Terence Cao, Xiang Yun, Lin Mei Jiao, Darren Lim and Zhu Hou Ren. Ooh, baby, baby.

The venerable Zhu Hou Ren plays a family guy who longs to dandle a grandchild on his knee but isn’t indulged by his married son (Darren Lim) or his single daughter (Jesseca). One day he runs into his old flame (Xiang Yun) who’s now a struggling single mother to a wayward Ah Lian daughter who plays pool for a living (Felicia). Said Ah Lian daughter has a baby son, born out of wedlock, named Olympic (oh yeah, you heard right). She’s a terrible mother, and frequently leaves the tot in the care of her nerdy neighbour (Ping Hui). Sparks fly when someone has a crush on someone, someone thinks someone’s having an affair with someone, and Felicia tries to sell her son off.
Felicia walked in holding the infant star, but she looked like she didn’t really know what to do with him, so Showbiz Sista is pretty sure that this role wasn’t much of a challenge for her to play. “I was a little scared of handling him at first,” Felicia said. “I feel like babies are fragile and I might crush them. At the audition, I was the only person who made him cry when I held him. I was sad and didn’t know what to do, but I learnt that I shouldn’t try too hard.” No maternal instincts were stimulated in the making of this drama—but it’s okay Felicia, you still have plenty of time before your clock starts ticking.

It’s a different story with Jesseca, however. “The best part about this show was the baby,” she told Showbiz Sista. “He’s really cute. Filming is usually a long and boring process, but we got to play with him while we were waiting in between scenes, and everyone fought to feed him and play with him. And I looked forward to seeing him and missed him if I didn’t see him.” Aww… Kudos to the baby for scoring himself a hot aunt.
“Hey hot aunt, can I buy you a chocolate milk?”
Okay, so, Ping Hui plays the guy who likes Jesseca’s character and tries to give his all for her, but she likes Terence’s character better. “I always play guys with unrequited passions for girls. Just like in real life. I’ve asked Jesseca out a few times, but she keeps saying no,” Ping Hui joked. Hurhur…
Don’t blink, because this just in: Zhu Hou Ren has some good news for you. “This is a very special show,” he said. “Starting with this show, all drama serials will end on a Friday. You can have the weekend to rest in between serials!”
Man, that Zhu Hou Ren is hot… Ooo yeah…
