Mooning around with Qi Yuwu and Priscelia Chan

Greetings and salutations, fellow stargazers! This is your Showbiz Sista in the studio with Qi Yuwu and Priscelia Chan, where we dumped water on them for a very wet photoshoot.

Yuwu and Pris star in the Singapore-Japan collaborative TV effort, Mooncake, which will air on Channel U on Christmas day. The project was initiated by Tokyo Broadcasting System as a gesture of thanks to Singapore for tsunami aid.

The hour-long drama is about a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) member, played by Yuwu, who falls in love with a Japanese girl (Japanese actress Shinobu Otsuka) and eventually goes to Japan as part of a special SCDF task force in the aftermath of the March 2011 tsunami. Pris stars as a jealous girlfriend.

For Yuwu, it was an experience of a lifetime. “I was filming SCDF scenes and I met some of the actual team members, the heroes who went helped at the tsunami. They filmed with us,” he said, as Priscelia made envious noises. ”And not just with them, but also with the five dogs who had gone to Japan. And I got to hold their leashes. I felt very proud. When I put on the Singapore SCDF uniform, with the dogs – I’ve never worn such a uniform for filming and it feel very real! I believed that I was a hero!”

Priscelia also had a magical moment while filming. “I drove a Lotus on my birthday on set,” she gushed. “And the crew threw me a surprise celebration – that really touched me. I really didn’t expect all these things. I just wanted to give my best for that day, even though I was working on my birthday. I saw the director suddenly walk out with a birthday cake, before the dinner break. It was really a very memorable scene.”

For our photoshoot, we got Yuwu and Priscelia wet to symbolise the oncoming wave of Japanese culture. Want to see how we did it? Click on the video below!

Golden oldies

Greetings and salutations, fellow stargazers! This is your Showbiz Sista taking a trip down memory lane with a host of artistes including Joanne Peh, Chen Hanwei, Qi Yuwu, Eelyn Kok and Cynthia Koh — the cast of Channel 8′s year-end period mega-blockbuster, A Song To Remember.

Not my own memories, though — Showbiz Sista is far, FAR too young to remember the Dirty Thirties. And, of course, so is the cast. But A Song To Remember, being set in the Thirties Shanghai and Singapore old-time cabaret scene, will take you right back to that glittering era.

Joanne and Eelyn play rival cabaret divas, while Julie Tan also stars as an up-and-coming young threat to their top-dog statuses. Yuwu plays a young musician with the hots for Joanne. Cynthia plays an abused wife, while Hanwei takes his first turn at being a smarmy old baddie. A Song To Remember also stars Priscelia Chan, Alan Tern, Desmond Tan and May Phua.

Watch this vid to see the cast natter on about nostalgia.

Catch A Song To Remember starting Tuesday (Nov 22) at 9pm on MediaCorp TV Channel 8. Showbiz Sista, signing out. Live long and pop corn!

May the Force be with you

Greetings and salutations, fellow stargazers! This is your Showbiz Sista hanging out with a bunch of men and women in blue. No, not Smurfs. It’s the cast of the newest upcoming Channel 8 drama, C.L.I.F.

C.L.I.F. stands for Courage, Loyalty, Integrity and Fairness, the core values of the Singapore Police Force, which has worked closely with the production team to create a drama of unprecedented realism which will help viewers understand how our police officers keep our homeland safe.

C.L.I.F stars, well, a whole bunch of people, including Tay Ping Hui as the big man in charge, as well as Qi Yuwu, Joanne Peh, Elvin Ng, Andie Chen, Rayson Tan, Aileen Tan, Tracy Lee, Chris Tong, Rebecca Lim, Jade Seah, Adam Chen, and Romeo Tan. Actors with supporting roles include Julian Hee, Benjamin Heng, May Phua, Desmond Tan and Priscelia Chan. See? Told you there were a lot of people involved.

Ping Hui said that this drama differed from all his other police roles in that realism was key. “If I ever play an officer again, I’ll know how it’s done!”

Joanne, who teamed up with Yuwu in the show, said, “Yuwu appeared in my dreams! I had nightmares about us trying to crack cases and never succeeding. It was stressful!”

Poor Yuwu also looked a little stressed when Aileen Tan started talking. “He can never speak when I’m next to him,” she said about Yuwu. “That’s because in his very first drama, I played his girlfriend!” She chortled gleefully. “When I was young, a long time ago, I was a member of the National Police Cadet Corps, so, playing this role, I feel 20 years younger,” she went on to say. “I’m fine with not having that many scenes in this show — it’s more important that I look really cool!”

The Force has all the girl power it needs in Tracy, Chris, Aileen, Joanne and Jade.

Oh, and one more thing: You’ll see a very expressive Romeo Tan in this show…

Catch C.L.I.F. starting May 31, weekdays at 9pm on MediaCorp TV Channel 8. Showbiz Sista, signing out. Live long and pop corn!
